Behind The Wave
The why behind The Wave
The Blessing Wave was birthed shortly after the devastating tornadoes of March 3, 2020 in Nashville, TN. We woke up to devastating news that parts of our city were completely destroyed. We jumped into action helping where we could and when we could. We toured the neighborhoods, we worked with the community leaders, we organized, and saw the power of our community coming together.
The city had too many volunteers and almost every need that was posted online was met! But we also realized this would be a long recovery process and we knew the needs would be ever-changing. When someone finally did get back in their house, they would need food and furniture and that’s when we wanted to be able to show up, not just in the disaster but in the recovery.
Shortly after those tornadoes, Tennessee was dealt two more blows, COVID-19 and another tornado in Chattanooga, TN. Our city/state had been shaken in ways we had never seen it. People had lost their homes, their jobs, their entire lives and we knew, as a community we could show up. In the midst of the tornado recovery, we saw churches, races, religions, and generations come together to meet every need and we wanted the movement to continue far beyond the initial disaster.
